Today I took off the local blood clinic for a test I need done before I have a CT scan. There is nothing major happening, but it is a necessary check-up procedure. So dutifully I get up and go to the clinic only to see a sign that says “Sorry, we are closed due to being in the Red Phase of the Pandemic. I will reassess next week.”
That tipped my scales so to speak. I felt a little frustration and could have ranted and raved but i, there is nothing I can do about it and why would I spend my energy on a negative rant. Instead, I said to myself, she just wants to protect herself and others. I do have another option. You see, I was given a phone number to call just in case. If I chose a negative rant (which I may have done in the past) I would have been upset for at least 2 hours and if something else happened that I did not like during that time, it would elongate that time of frustration.
I know I have a choice and I just don’t need to live in that kind of frustration. I was not always able to look at what I can and cannot control so easily. There was a time that my whole 24 hours and yes even days could have been bad. Since learning Choice Theory and the Reality Therapy process, I am so grateful to be able to understand I may not be able to control what is happening but can control how I respond.
Sometimes it gets away from me but in reality, these events are just sending us a frustration signal that is simple an urge to do something. What we do next is up to us. If you would like to learn more, I am collecting names for two potential trainings that I am offering.
1.One will be a training program where you will join me online for an hour or so and then go and work on the modules and we will meet up virtually every two weeks to talk about what you are learning and to answer any questions and to learn from each other.
- The second option will be to work virtually fours hours at a time until we meet the 28 hour requirement. Could be over three weeks.
